Wrestling Heritage welcomes memories, further information and corrections.

It was a case of rock ‘n’ roll to grunt ‘n’ groan for Mancunian Harold Weller. From the 1960s and onwards Harold was a guitarist in various bands that included The Blue Angels, Tick Tock Tactics, the Santa Fe Reunion, the David John Sound and the R&B band “The Good Guys,” who played as a supporting band to Hermans Hermits, The Nashville Teens and the Rockin’ Berries; “An awesome bass player” said wrestler Pippa L’vinn. In 2026 Harold still plays just as enthusiastically, but mostly to entertain himself.
In the 1970s professional wrestling came to the forefront for Harold and in 1978 he formed Action Promotions. Action Promotions were the north western arm of the British Wrestling Alliance, an innovative grouping who organised their own championship contests and only those champions were recognised in the halls of their dozen or so members. Championships were contested not just for the men, but for the ladies, tag teams and mixed tag teams which featured on their bills. It was the ladies of the ring that brought the BWA to national attention, and Action Promotions specialised in female wrestling.
Wrestler Eddie Rose told us, “Harold Weller from the Manchester end of Bury also had a handy gym and encouraged local wrestlers and a squad of good girl wrestlers, notably Terri Kruger from South Africa and a Bury girl called Jodie Lee.”
Following the closure of the Kings Hall at Belle Vue Harold promoted shows in Belle Vue’s Cumberland Suite.
