Anglia Promotions

Keighley strong boy Brian Trevors was the man behind Anglia Promotions, presenter of wrestling tournaments throughout East Anglia. Brian moved from Yorkshire to Norfolk in 1966. He opened a gym in Filby where he trained local youngsters for work on his shows. Anglia shows became known as a breeding ground for young professionals.

During the summer months Brian held contracts to present weekly tournaments in holiday camps around the country. Ray Plunkett was a referee and promoter for Anglia Promotions, and is the first to testify to the quality of the promotions and the decency of the man at the top, Brian Trevors.

Naturally one of the main event regulars on the Anglia shows was Brian Trevors himself, a former Joint Promotions star who was famous for his demonstrations of strength such as bending coins and breaking nails. When not wrestling on his bills Trevors could be seen carrying out the multitude of roles necessary when presenting a wrestling show, including frequent appearances as the referee. Brian trained up and coming stars at his own gymnasium.

Another regular performer on Anglia Promotions during the 1970s was light heavyweight Bert Alliday. Bert was born in south Wales, but during the summer season could be found most nights of the week in East Anglian venues. Bert was a popular addition to any bill, usually with the tagline of the Welsh Wizard.

Robins Hoode was a bit of a bad boy. The green tights and short ragged jacket were his trademark. He was described on the posters as “The Mighty Atom” and was an energetic performer who always thrilled the fans. Others in his talented stable included John L. Hagger, Bad Bill Pye, Stephen St John, and Hercules Ken Nicholls.
