Bob Isdale

Also known as Bobby Belle

The eldest of the three Isdale brothers was Bobby Isdale, who lived in the Ayshire village of Maybole. He combined his part time wrestling commitments with running a mobile grocery. Bobby  used both his family name and the name Bobby Belle, not to be confused with Ellesmere Port’s Bob Bell. Having studied martial arts Bobby joined Dale Storm’s Mossblown gym in the early 1970s, around a year later than his younger brother, Jim.

He was the heavier of the two brothers,  a Heavy-Middleweight.  Bob was a naturally effervescent  person who could and would be quite comical in the ring. A great hero of his was Les Kellett, and Bob could mimic him to good effect. He had a gift of perfect timing, both as a mat-man and also as a witty grappler, with  his often  off the cuff witty  remarks.

As a Tag Team Bobby and brother Jim were always a popular addition to any Bill, and their performances were enjoyed by everyone who paid their hard earned cash.  They had memorable matches against the Fabulous Harlequins and, in singles contests against Michael O’Hagan  and Bruce Welch. Ill health forced Bobby into retirement when he was around forty and he died at too early an age, around 60, in 2001.
