Bobby Bierne

Wrestling Heritage welcomes memories, further information and corrections.

Bobby Bierne was based in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, though publicity at the time told us he was born in Ireland. Most of his earliest matches we found were working for promoter Jack Taylor, though he later travelled extensively working for various independent promoters.

In August, 1965 Bobby began working for Joint Promotions. In September TV Times listed him wrestling Jack Dempsey in a televised match from Bridlington, but doubt has been cast on the match being broadcast.

In 1969. Heritage member Al Hibbert witnessed the unmasking of the White Phantoms at Wimbledon Palais. Beneath the masks were Bobby Bierne and Gypsy Joe Smith. In 1976, they were unmasked once again, this time working as The Assasins, by Bert Royal and Vic Faulkner. Bobby and Gypsy Joe Smith had a long standing working relationship in both singles and tag partnership.

Bobby Bierne disappeared from our rings in 1979. There has been discussion regarding the identity of Bobby Bierne and Bobby Burns. As the latter emigrated to Australia in the mid 1960s it seems most likely they are different wrestlers.
