Bust ’em Up
Brian Hunt, a heavyweight from Chapel-en-le-Frith in Derbyshire, emerged onto the early 1960s heavyweight scene to work for independent promoters in the north and midlands. The earliest we find him is on 6th July 1961, wrestling Rocky Taylor at the Levenshulme Sporting Club in Manchester. Other opponents on the independent circuit included the likes of Cowboy Cassidy, Lord Bertie Topham, Jim Moser, Dominic Pye, and Henri Pierlot.
In November 1964 he made his first transition to Joint Promotions, but was back working for the independents before 1965 was out. A more permanent period of working for Joint Promotions began in 1968 initially using his own name (or Brian Hunter) and then in the 1970s mostly as a serial masked man – Bula, Dr Death, Outlaw, Red Devil and various other names.
In his only World of Sport televised match as Brian Hunt he lost to Kevin Conneely in April 1976. In tag matches he sometimes tagged with his friend and neighbour, Hans Streiger, and in 1980 the two of them were the only British wrestlers to work on the first show in Lebanon for five years.
Brian Hunt, born 1939 died on 30th December, 2024.
