Careers Early and Late Honeyboy Zimba

Ron Historyo

Going to go for Honeyboy Zimba.

Warrior Nigel came first, but the following year Zimba. Within 2 months at the same venue they added Honeyboy.

Yet another Persona shift but no change to the style of wrestling, I suspect.

The 1970 bill shows that sometimes they brought Warrior Nigel back, strange thing to do.

Honeyboy looks to have carried on until 1985 or thereabouts.

A very tough wrestler for opponents up to 15 stones. Short Powerful guy.

A man who came into a great era, I wonder what he thought of wrestling’s changes during his time.

I liked Zimba very much. If I remember right he remained Warrior Nigel at Liverpool (so possibly Blackpool too) until into the 1970s; Philip Howlin will be able to confirm or not. Now we have Nelson Entertainments in conjunction with Dale Martin at Nelson as well as the previously mention R.Franklin at Westbury. It’s surprising how many of these partnerships we find for Joint Promotion members. A Battle Royal in 1970. I hadn’t realised they were around that early. No mention of those eight in singles matches that night. If not that would be easy money and a very odd show. 1985 just makes you cringe. Just how things have changed since 1962.

Yes I seem to remember he was Nigel in 68 I think he was Zimba by the seventies In my stadium book I always referred to him as Zimba so can’t offer a specific date when he changed the name
