Careers Early and Late Jack Fallon

Nothing flashy today about Jack Fallon.

If it’s true he trained at Riley’s Snakepit, then it’s yet another man who did not take his own name.

I don’t find the Promoters slipping up and ever calling him Billy Chambers.

I can show him in 1963, he would be 27 years old. The first three bills tracking his career, I would have loved to have seen him and Ginsberg.

A tough competitor, very Wigan style and in some ways went a bit under the radar. Not a fans favourite.

He fascinated me because I was following Kendo Nagasaki at the time and it was the year I passed my driving test in May.

Kendo had been on with The Destroyer at Hanley. It sounded good, but I gave it a miss and six weeks later it was advertised again and it was one of those “Winner for Certain” matches.

I intended to go, but I can’t quite remember what went wrong. I think I may have got in traffic, maybe fog and had to give up. It was 50 miles and I was going to be too late.

At some point I found out The Destroyer was Jack Fallon.

What I did not know until recently was that the following year they did it again at two more venues and probably more.

I don’t know what to make of that. I never liked Kendo fighting the smaller men, but some like Billy Howes gave him the battle of all battles.

Did Jack Fallon, I wonder.

The promoter must have thought the bout a winner.

I could only track Jack Fallon until 1974 and I thought that was it.

For me his highlight was The Destroyer. He must have had good bouts with Hussey, Ginsberg and Bobo Matu but I never got to see the Destroyer.

Did he enjoy the mask?

Suddenly, after seemingly an absence of over a decade I find Fallon again in 1986 and this time identified as DR Death.

Well, it’s yet another copy. But, You Know, I think he might have been tailor made for the job.

The bill below in 1974 at Rhos -on-Sea Fallon is on a bill with Dr Death. I wonder if he doubled up that night.

Ì was at the Liverpool show the battle of the masks ended in a Double count out we were promised a rematch but it never happened I think it may have been billed for 26th January 73 but it was replaced by a handicap match Kendo v Colin Joynson and Roy Paul

I must admit I liked Jack Fallon saw him in 2 great contests v Johnny Kincaid and then Bobo Matu

Ron Historyo

Great info Phil, I used to get to Liverpool sometimes but I am based in Manchester and never saw any adverts. I only went when Gillett gave me tips when Kendo was on in the North West. I did not know about this one. It sounds a Cracker.

Agree, never saw enough of Fallon.

Mad Mac

Looking at the 1947 Chester bill, would Elma Foy be Emile Poilve? I’ve seen him listed as Foy.

Hack

Elmo Foy was Jim Foy of Bolton, also used the name Elmo the Moghty.

That orange Wigan ad is quite extraordinary for so many reasons. It just makes me wonder, a small venue, maybe it was Jack’s own attempt at promotion?

Another Wiganite for the list of renaming himself with a name that’s just as drab as his real name.

Jack went missing for a very long time. I find it hard to believe that He was a really regular Dr Death for a long period.

The Snakepit liked it’s Jack’s. Dempsey, Fay and Fallon and even linked to Wigan, Jack Beaumont although I believe he was a Pop Charnock Pupil.

Paul Mitchell, if you are looking in, Can you add anything about Jack Fallon’s Career length. Where was he after 1974. ??

Hack

Jack certainly seemed to know his stuff but was (to borrow one of Anglo’s words) pretty dour. I saw him as the Destroyer once, at Blackpool one Sunday. I think he was in with Butts Giraud, but it was not a memorable match. One of the problems for the Destroyer persona was that the name had already been devalued by over-use on the independents. It was definitely Jack under the match on that occasion, and definitely Fallon unmasked by Kendo at Hanley in 1971. But then there seem to be lots of different Destroyers unmasked after that Lee Sharron, Ace Allcard, Billy Stock etc. Seeing Jack wrestle as himself the idea of him in a mask just didn’t seem right. They all became Dr Death originally, but did Jack. Advertising him as the ex Dr Death is ludicrous.

I think I might have found him in 1960 (or could be Pallo)

BKendo

It was Jack against Reg not Pallo,Jack was a superb straight wrestler not a natural show wrestler.Jack did a lot of work with me when I started with joint and every hold hurt believe me he was master off pull on groovy.he did the destroyer but wasnt a a masked man natural, like Dennis Mitchell he wasn’t comfortable although with Denis it was an eye problem. Jack was old school and Max wasn’t his idea of a promoters, four yes, proficient yes but I witnessed him and Tibor do a bout that held the crowd because of needle.
