Careers Early and Late Tony Charles

Ron Historyo

Tony Charles.

What a great wrestler that I don’t think they made enough of. I found him in 1958 and on the bill in 1962 was The Welsh Wizard.

I am not sure if it lasted long, put paired with Adrian Street as The Welsh Wizards might just have been a problem for Adrian.

Who knows?

Adrian was to team with Bobby Barnes and I am not so sure that Tony did that much tag here. 1973 is about his latest match and did much better in USA

If you have not seen Charles V Thornton, then it’s a treat that shows how good they both were. They really went at this.

Hack

Oh how times were to change in the next five years. 1958 and we have novice Tony Charles in with Mick McManus down in a lowly supporting role. Five or six years later they would be top of the bill. By 1962 he’s gone across to Paul Lincoln and main eventing with Harry Fields. You can see that yourself of course. The point is the move to Lincoln seems to have given him a boost which held good for when he returned to Joint. Not that he was ever a main eventer for them, as Ron says they didn’t make the most of him with old timers holding up the progress of younger stars. Great match there with Thornton.
