Lee Bamber

Why on earth would Lee Canderton chose the name Bamber as his professional name? Well, he didn’t. It was promoter Brian Dixon who noticed a resemblance between Lee and television presenter Bamber Gascoine. We are still not convinced it was a compliment but it did Lee no harm at all.

Like so many Heritage readers Lee was a fan of television wrestling from an early age, watched shows at Brent Town Hall and the Royal Albert Hall, but unlike most of us he got well and truly involved in the business.

Born in Harrow on 16th October, 1963 Lee left Pinner Sixth Form College, worked in Harrods, Hamleys and Selfridges but had his sights set on a more public role. Work as a redcoat in a Butlins Holiday Camp led to refereeing the wrestling shows and in 1985 the start of a long career working for All Star Promotions.

When All Star took a portion of the television contract Lee gained national exposure as a Master of Ceremonies. This was just the start though for Lee and a video cassette was produced fronted by Mick McManus. “The Mick McManus World Of Wrestling” was released and Lee was honoured with the role of commentator.

In 2015 Lee took over as compere for the British Wrestlers Reunion, a role he performed with distinction until the demise of the Reunion in 2021.
