Nineteenth Century Professional Wrestling Questions Answered -Introduction

By Ruslan Pashayev

There has been a great deal of discussion regarding to when exactly pro wrestling became what it currently is – the greatest athletic showcase on planet Earth. For decades people, I mean the fans, were told the same story over and over again how originally pro wrestling was a legitimate sport, similar to what modern Olympics are, and how in the 1920s or around that time it was changed once and forever by some “evil and greedy” people, the promoters. We all know this story, we all heard it many times, and we all sure heard about how there reportedly was some GOLDEN ERA of pro wrestling (the 19c early 20c) and how after it was gone wrestling became something else, and as a matter of fact that something else is what the vast majority of pro wrestling fans all around the world love and appreciate (just saying).

But that Golden Era thing, and all those countless talks about the glorious and victorious past and about how the old-timers were better than the athletes what we currently have (and enjoy by the way!) and about the world’s most dangerous shooters and the shoots they had right and left and etc. very many other myths that were created and popularized in pro wrestling fans’ circles, what to do with ALL this? This what I present here is to answer the most frequently asked questions about the pro wrestling past and shed the light on that bygone era which is often time being called the Golden Era of wrestling. My research or better call it a comparative analyses of pro wrestling’s past and its present is based on my studies and work exclusively with credible evidences and historical material to which I committed twenty years of my life. Hope you enjoy the read!
