Ringsport Promotions

Evan Treharne had published Combat and Ringsport before he moved into wrestling promotion under the name Ringsport Promotions.

Ringsport Promotions made their debut at Caerphilly Social Club on 22nd September, 1971. At that time the only promoters in South Wales they put on shows in working men’s clubs and small halls, using wrestlers such as Killer Ken Davies, the Cartwright brothers and Reg Yeats.

Evan was, and remains, for us a wrestling hero. Stories abound of his kindness and generosity. One of them, told by wrestler Jackie Glitterboy Evans, was of a night when a Ringsport show was poorly attended, with only around thirty in the audience. Many promoters would have grumbled and paid the wrestlers short. Not Evan. He didn’t just pay the wrestlers in full, he had pizzas to share between the fans. Eddie Rose was another that had nothing but praise for Evan, other than his tendency to phone on a Saturday night as Match of the Day was starting.
