The Start of A New Era
The Formation of Joint Promotions

A group of five wrestling promoters had been working collectively under the banner of the British Wrestling Promoters Association since March 1949. Three years later four of those five made it a more formal agreement, the exception being Dale Martin Promotions. The formation of Joint Promotions was a seismic moment that would shape the development of British wrestling for the next forty years.

Joint Promotions Ltd was incorporated on the 13th March, 1952, in London, registration number was: 0505419. The company had its first registered office at: Coliseum Buildings, Fairbank Road, Toller Lane, Bradford 8. The principle activity of the company was the described as the promotion of professional wrestling through out the United Kingdom.

On the date of incorporation of Joint Promotions Ltd, there were four directors, holding one share each, namely:

Walter Leonard Beresford, of 25 St John’s Road, Huddersfield.

Norman Morrell, of 41 Westfield Road, Bradford.

George Fredrick Henry deRelwyskow, of 6 Oakwood Lane, Leeds.6.

Arthur Laurence Wright of Palatine Grange, 28, Palatine Road, Withington, Manchester.20.

Notable by their absence were Dale Martin Promotions and Bill Best Promotions, both of whom would join at a later date.

Each of the Joint Promotion members were established in convenient regions of the United Kingdom. Ted Beresford, a former wrestler, promoted mainly in the North East and east midlands under the name Globe Promotions. Norman Morrell, an Olympian and former professional promoted mostly throughout northern England. Morrell and Beresford often promoted wrestling programmes jointly. George De Relwyskow also promoted around northern England with a strong presence in Scotland. Arthur Wright (Wryton Promotions) promoted mainly in the midlands and southern Lancashire. Southern England was largely untouched by Joint Promotions in 1952 (due to the absence of Dale Martin Promotions) though there were some oddities with Morrell using Lime Grove Baths in London and Wryton in Cornwall.
